Let's Play Catch Up!

I can't believe it's almost March and I've only bogged once this year! So let's do a little catch up.

- January and February was way busier at work than I anticipated. I had to travel to two different places for events, plus man my own site's event. I'm still trying to recover!

- I now fully understand what a pain in the butt the IT band can be. Over the past few weeks the outside of my right knee has been giving me issues. No good man! I have a half marathon to train for!

- Had a general check-up with my doctor since it was time to go hard with my half marathon training. She discovered my heart rate was low and sent me to the hospital off base to be hooked up to a 24 Hour Holter Monitor. You would think with all this technology we have, they would be able to make that thing less bulky! The tech who hooked me up (who happens to be a runner too!) thinks everything is alright. He thinks my rate (47) is normal for runners. BUT, since he isn't a doctor, I didn't get too excited. I go back next week for a follow up.

- Saturday, Feb. 23rd, the local Moms Run This Town chapter participated in the #Anywhere5K Team Challenge. I finished that in 37:25. We had 2 teams and placed 20th and 21st. I placed 10th for my age group! WooHoo! I've never placed so, even though this was a virtual event, I'm still super stoked to have placed.

- Even though I've been kind of busy, I managed to do the Over The Hill Track Club Resolution Run (post here), Moms Run This Town Winter Runnerland Virtual Half Marathon and keep my half marathon training pretty consistent.

Now that we're all caught up, let's see what the coming weeks bring me as I continue training for my first half!

First Race of 2013!

A few weeks ago I came across a post via my gal pal Ro over at Super {Runner} Mama about running 13 in 2013. Naturally, that sparked my interest and I signed right on up! The super cool thing about this challenge? Virtual races count towards your 13 races! Which is perfect for me because, we're stationed in the middle of nowhere and I don't necessary want to travel the almost 200 miles to get to L.A. for all my races.

On New Year's Day I ran my first race of the year with Over the Hill Track Club. OTHTC is a local running group here in Ridgecrest, CA. Well, I don't even know if you can call them a "running group" because, I haven't heard of them running together outside of their races. When I think of a running group, I think of groups like the L.A. Leggers, Lake Merritt Joggers and Striders or even the Dallas Running Club I hear so much about on Dailymile. You know? Groups that meet up and run together just because or because some may be training for a race.

Anywho. I ran their Resolution Run on New Year's and I about died! First, there's the high elevation we're at. That instantly slows me down. And secondly, the hills! When I saw the guys running on the side of the mountain, I swear I about turned around. LOL! It was very narrow and steep running back down that part. But, it was still fun since I ran it with some ladies from the local Moms Run This Town chapter.

First race of the year, done! I have plenty more in mind and can't wait to complete my 13 in 2013 challenge.

It's Time!

When I was in high school, I absolutely hated running long distance. The 100 and 200 were more my speed. I loved me a good relay too! But anything longer than that was greeted with a lot of attitude. So, I would have never imagined that I would ever want to run a 5K. And now, I am saying:

I'm Training For a Half Marathon!!

Yep! As you can see from the picture below I'm all registered for my first half marathon!

Divas Half Marathon here I come! I officially start training this week! Why so far out? Hello! The farthest I have ran in one session is 3.1 miles. I'm going to need all the training time I can get if I want to make it across that finish line on my own!

I'm going to follow the Disney Princess Half Marathon for beginners plan. It's simple and straight to the point. And since I am a wife, mom and now work outside of the home where I sometimes have to travel, I like straight to the point!

So here I go! Let the training begin!

Once Upon a Time...

...I was pretty freaking fit! Let me tell you what happened.

First came love. Saw him in the gym getting a good workout in. He had me at "Hello"!

Then came marriage. While driving him to the air terminal for his deployment, he said "When I get back, I don't want to drive across country without you having my last name.". He flew me out to Hawaii a month into his deployment and he proposed to me!

Then came our baby in a baby carriage! Took us 3 years to get our princess! It was well worth the wait.

I went from fit and fabulous to a stereotypical frumpy Navy wife and SAHM. Who would have thunk it?! Well, it's time to get the fit me back! Follow me as I go from SAHM to full-time working outside the home Navy wife and Mom. I'll be kicking that frumpy Navy wife stereotype's butt as I train for my first half marathon and um, have a not so frumpy wardrobe! LOL!
